I've owned this Mamiya Universal Press for a few years, but it hasn't seen a huge amount of use. The rangefinder focus was slightly off, which made it difficult to get the best out of the camera.
Recently, my friend Stan kindly took it apart, gave it a thorough service and clean, and got the rangefinder focus back where it should be. It's now spot on, so it was about time I took it out for a proper day of shooting.
I have a few medium format cameras in my collection, and for this film I wanted to look at something a little different: the instant-film backs, and how the exposed image area compares with the different medium format cameras I own.
I headed out to Reffen in Copenhagen, Denmark, with the Mamiya Universal Press, taking both the 6x9 film back and a Polaroid back loaded with some expired Fujifilm FP-3000B black-and-white instant film.
It was a chance to put the camera through its paces again, compare the different formats and, most importantly, enjoy using a camera that had been sitting on the shelf for far too long.
